Onboarding Offshore Workers
In the video below, Yempo’s CEO Michelle Fiegehen describes how easy it is to get started with offshore outsourcing with Yempo, a premier BPO Company in the Philippines, and how to onboard your remote employees.
From time to time I chat with potential clients that are keen to engage with offshore resources, but they see a lot of obstacles before they can commence.
The most extreme case was a small business that decided to embark on a 12-month LEAN program with expensive consultants to improve and document all their processes before even considering offshore outsourcing.
As far as I know, they didn’t ever achieve the perfection they were seeking, and they ultimately abandoned both the LEAN program and their plans to implement an offshoring solution.
And the more common scenario is when a client realizes they don’t have sufficient documentation to onboard a new hire.
So what do you need in place before you can start working with your offshore resource?
Consider what you need to onboard a new hire in your own office. You would meet with them in person, train them, and yes you might need some documentation for your custom internal processes.
Of course, if you need someone with deep and thorough knowledge of SalesForce or Netsuite or Dynamics, you won’t have to train them in those technologies as candidates are screened for the skills you need. But you will need to train them in your way of doing things.
With an offshore worker, it’s the same, except you will meet with them over videoconference instead of in person.
One of our clients, a one-man financial services firm, delayed his offshore hire while he put together some basic documentation, then after onboarding his new remote employee, he made it their job to document all the remaining processes, as they were learned.
You can read about their experience in this case study.
